London Fashion Week 2011

The RUSH Session Team stole the show at this season’s London Fashion Week being invited by PPQ, Belle Sauvage, Olivia Rubin and Pam Hogg to create next season’s trends. A team of over 15 Stylists worked their creativity and magic backstage on over 100 models to plait, weave, sculpt and dress the hair – creating bang on trends for A/W 2011-12.
Here’s a sneak preview of what’s set to be hot next season:
PAM HOGG
An alternative take on hair pieces, the core of the styles were dark, unstructured, heavy plaits creating interesting hair sculptures that were then attached to the head. These were incorporated with head wear designed by Pam Hogg herself, such as birds, fur and leather hats.
On working with the RUSH Session Team, Pam said:
“I can’t thank you enough… What an amazing team… the best I’ve ever worked with. They got it right away…it normally takes a few hours to get the results I desire… It was a dream to work with such talented people.”
OLIVIA RUBIN
A fashionable celebration of femininity, the style was inspired by androgynous ballerina buns. A neat and precise look, hair was slicked back into a small bun at the nape of the neck complimented by a side parting to add that touch of femininity.
After the show Olivia said:
“I worked with the RUSH Session Team to convey the ‘femme fatale’ vision I had when I first designed the collection. I wanted the hair to be very slick and sharp with a defined side parting and a bun in the nape of the neck to create an androgynous glamour. The RUSH Session Team executed this flawlessly with a super high gloss finish that automatically brought together the empowered vision I had for AW11. I loved working with Sam and the RUSH team – and would like to pass my thanks to them all, especially Sam.”

PPQ
A celebration of natural and shiny hair taking inspiration from American Street Gangs. The style was based around exaggerated, symmetrical plaits with heavy centre partings and topped with masses of shine. The plaits were brought forward clean in front of the ears and finished with heavy, long velvet bows tied at the bottom inspired by Wednesday Addams.

BELLE SAUVAGE
A play on gothic veils of hair, the intricate braiding included ash grey and black braided hair pieces which were weaved along the head. The admired style was distinguished by dull braids against incredibly shiny hair honouring an overall style of anti-head shape.

RUSHing in Head First…
I wasn’t planning to have my hair blow dried in Rush today.
I was in fact booked in for the pre-event blow dry at another hairdressing salon in the recently opened New Change shopping mall. But, as things would have it, the other salon mis-booked my appointment and then could do nadda to fit me in or help me.
Long story short and there I was, close to having a meltdown at the thought of turning up the next day with, well, normal hair… but then I had the epiphany. I had recently seen another salon upstairs. Maybe they could help.
And help they did.
