Backstage at Francesca Marotta, London Fashion Week AW12

Headed up by Tina Farey and Sam Burnett, The RUSH Session Team showcased their creative skills at the Francesca Marotta AW12 show, on day one of London Fashion Week. Titled ‘The Love of My Life’, the collection was inspired by dramatic, oppressive Sicilian funerals the designer recalls witnessing as a young girl.

Working alongside Session Stylist Nina Butkovich-Budden, the team created three very different hair looks to complete the pieces, each encompassing the contrasting themes associated with the funeral ritual.

Drawing inspiration from Jesus, Tina created a texturised halo of hair designed to represent the crown of thorns. The rest of the hair hung straight and ultra-glossy down the back, creating a striking, sleek visual.

The second look, a beautiful loose, knotted bun is a nod to the oppression of women in Sicily during that era. Sam Burnett styled the hair in to loose curls before knotting at the nape of the neck, to create the ultimate feminine style.

For the finale, a mass of soft curls, dressed with a red Perspex crown for a dramatic, yet hopeful climax to the show.

The RUSH Session Team was out in force on Thursday behind the scenes at Stroboscopic, an exclusive presentation hosted by On|Off, ensuring London Fashion Week AW12 opened in style.

80 guests enjoyed an electrifying fusion of Fashion, Performance, Art and Music – showcasing some of the season’s hottest talent.

To complement, Tina Farey, Sam Burnett and the team created hair looks as unique as the acts. Backstage the atmosphere was buzzing as the team worked their magic on the eclectic mixture of performers…

For design duo Cunningham and Sanderson gel was painted onto the hair, giving the 40’s inspired wet look rolls a moulded, plastic appearance.

Martin Creed ft.  Matteo Molinari – Tina crafted vintage inspired Victory Rolls, to enhance the stark, androgynous, yet somehow natural look of the styling.

Born in Sicily in 1973, Francesca studied at the London College of Fashion and has since shown across the globe in countries such as Japan, UK, France and Belgium. Known as a conceptual trend-setter and Avant-Gardiste, this is the up-and-coming label to wear if you want to stand out in the crowd and make a statement.

RUSH Session Team were the chosen stylists for design duo Belle Sauvage Spring Summer 2012 show at The Old Sorting Office, London. Tina Farey, Sam Burnett, Paola Pinto and Isabella Hyde led the team to create 40s classic looks with a contemporary twist.

Belle Sauvage designers, Chris and Virginia personally invited RUSH Session Team to style the hair for their show for the 3^rd season after developing a close working relationship of creative compatibility.  Known for their vivid digital prints and sharp silhouettes, the RUSH Hair brand complements Belle Sauvage perfectly.

The Spring Summer 2012 catwalk showcased the signature looks of space age digital prints combined with bold structured tailoring full of bright colours.  Heading up the RUSH Session team, Tina Farey, Editorial Director of RUSH Hair designed hair to complement the strong designs.

“The brief we had from Chris and Virginia had a 40s theme with images of the classic finger waves and victory rolls. We put a modern twist on this by keeping the sides very tight and creating a “V” shape with the victory rolls with a smaller roll through the middle area. The finger waves where added after, in different positions, working also with the hats.”

To prepare for the show, the team worked on creating the waves on hair wefts prior to the show which could then be added to the hair.  With 12 models and two hours preparation time, the team worked together to produce the incredible finished looks.

“It was fantastic to work with Belle Sauvage for the 3rd season, we all really enjoyed the brief with the 40s theme and contemporary edge. There was a fantastic buzz about the show and we loved the change of direction. Prepping the hair wefts beforehand was essential and on the morning we created very clean modern victory rolls at the back with a smooth panel in the centre and a small roll below the crown. Some models had hats that where placed at different angles on the head while short hair was gelled back with the small horizontal roll added for continuity.”

Starting your day at a Windsor beauty salon gives you a good point to base your whole day around. If you’re taking your mum for a birthday treat, why not start with a hot stone massage and matching manicures and/or pedicures, before having a look around the shops, lunch at a cafe or restaurant (try and pre-book if possible to avoid disappointment), and perhaps a look around the famous castle? If you’re treating your grandmother then a pedicure is always welcome, as toenails can sometimes be something that individuals find more difficult to manage themselves as they get older. You could then take her for lunch and a walk around Home Park, in the shadows of Windsor castle.

A trip to a Windsor beauty salon is also a great idea for a friend’s birthday – why not plan a day of pampering before a big night out? You could get manicures, spray tans, false eyelashes and so on; you could even get matching pedicures, and then head to the shops to buy new shoes to show off your toes! Dinner at a restaurant could be followed by drinks in a local bar to mark the beginning of your girls’ night out!  If you want to use a trip to a Windsor beauty salon as a birthday gift, then book your friend a few private treatments such as massages or facials, followed by a treatment that you both can enjoy such as a manicure. When you’re planning a day of pampering with a friend or family member, make some time to browse the shops available in Sevenoaks. A day of pampering is the perfect time to spoil yourself with things that you don’t often buy just for you – a big bunch of fresh flowers or a new nail polish in a bright shade for summer. You might even want to visit the local antiques centre to spend an afternoon browsing through the furniture, books, jewellery and much more!

A day out is never complete without a delicious meal to finish it off. After you’ve been made over at the hairdressers, Sevenoaks has a range of restaurants to tempt you no matter what you’re in the mood for. From Italian through to Thai, Cantonese, Indian and traditional English, you’re sure to find something to suit your appetite and budget. Afterwards, why not treat yourself to a drink at one of the many pubs and wine bars on offer? If you fancy a night out, you could even find a nearby hotel and stay the night – turn your girls’ day into a girls’ weekend! Weekends away or days out are a great way to spoil yourself and someone that you love. You could plan a day out for a friend or loved one’s birthday – book them (and yourself) a couple of treatments or a hair styling session and make reservations at a restaurant for dinner once they’ve been pampered. Offer to drive them there and back, and make sure they don’t have to lift a finger all day; perfect!

So, you can at least venture out and find your local newsagent and get a pint of milk, some bread and a paper.  The local supermarket can wait a little longer, and along with registering for the local doctors and dentists, you will also need to find your local hair salon. If you make an appointment early on, you may be able to catch up on some of the local gossip or learn a bit about the local area from people who also live nearby.

Perhaps you have moved into an area of Kent that is near to Sevenoaks? You are aware that Sevenoaks is a fairly large place and so it makes sense that there will be a hairdresser’s. Sevenoaks may prove to have the widest choice of salons near to where you live.

By visiting some of the hairdressers Sevenoaks has to offer, you will be able to whittle the choices down until you have found the one or two salons that you like the best.  Then, when it comes to that time when you need a little trim, or a restyle, you will feel confident that you will get the hair cut and the look you are paying for. Peace of mind when it comes to appearance is really important, as there is nothing quite as annoying as a bad haircut – you may have to wait to grow out before you can change it.

It is very important to consider travel connections when you are searching for a hairdressers – Sevenoaks is very easy to reach from the M25 and M26, and benefits from having the A25 and A21 (the Sevenoaks Bypass) very close by. Getting a haircut or restyle should be a relaxing experience, and this can depend on how you get to the hairdressers. Sevenoaks is in a great location for driving to the salon, so you won’t have to rely on public transport to get there and back. Driving is also a good option to keep your finished style intact after you leave the hairdressers – Sevenoaks has lots of salons that you can park close to, allowing you to go straight from the salon to your car. Going to the hair salon is a great excuse to pamper yourself, so why not arrange to have lunch with a friend after your appointment at the hairdressers? Sevenoaks has some great places to eat along the main roads, and many of these would be perfect for a post-appointment lunch! You could even invite your friend to join you at the salon, and make an appointment together to get a trim or a restyle. To really make your visit a treat, look for sumptuous new salons with well designed interiors to help you relax. If you are looking for a new salon that you visit on a regular basis, then try and find a hairdressers with experienced and knowledgeable staff. You can expect any good stylist to hold a consultation with you before they begin cutting or styling your hair, to discuss your needs and the possible styles that you could consider. You should feel informed and comfortable before you begin, and a good stylist will make sure of that. You could also look for salons with long opening hours – evening opening can be a blessing if you need to fit in an appointment after work, and weekend opening hours are great for when you have a bit more time to devote to an appointment.

If you are looking for West London hairdressers, Ealing has a range of salons for you to choose from. If you commute into the city from Ealing, look for good travel links to your hairdressers – Ealing Broadway station is conveniently located for salons, try to find one nearby so that you can book an appointment on your way back from work to save time. Longer opening hours are also really useful for this – some salons will stay open as late as 8pm, perfect if you have a dinner or party after work on a Friday night! You could even book yourself a treatment as a treat at the end of the working week – what better way to start your weekend than with a relaxing salon visit? Or why not go on a weekend and treat yourself to some shopping or dinner after your visit to the hairdressers? Ealing has a good range of shops, cafes and restaurants that you can enjoy, and a treatment at the salon followed by some shopping is a great way to have a relaxing day off and spoil yourself!

When you’re looking for hairdressers, Ealing has a range of salons that can offer weekly deals – you might be able to book treatments on a certain day or with certain stylists to receive a discount or get a special deal. Keep an eye out for deals (they are often on weekdays), and then see if you can arrange your schedule to take advantage of some of the offers available in your local hairdressers. Ealing also has a range of beauty salons that you could visit if you want to make a few appointments and have a day of pampering (you might need to do this on a weekend in case any of your appointments overrun).

When you find a new hair salon, you should try and get a regular stylist who cuts and styles your hair each time you go – call or drop into a local salon to see if this will be possible. This allows you to build up a relationship with your stylist, who will get to know you and your hair and can suggest styles that might suit you in the future. When you initially visit a salon for the first time, you should have a consultation with your new stylist to discuss the type of hair that you have and the style that you are after.
