6 Ways from Hair Hell to Heaven: How to Fix a Bad Hair Day

Some days your hair simply refuses to look the part. While, on some level, we all know that no one’s hair looks perfect all the time, that knowledge rarely stops a bad hair day from being a massive downer. But trust us, you don’t have to submit to the misery of a bad hair day, there’s usually a fairly simple way to take action. Here are a few easy fixes to tackle common bad hair day complaints.

Oily hair

Dry shampoo comes into its own if you fear your hair’s looking a bit oily. Lift your hair and spray the shampoo onto your roots then allow it to sit for a while before brushing out. Et voila! The shampoo should have absorbed the oil in your hair. If you don’t have any dry shampoo handy you could try baby powder in the same fashion, but try not to use too much as it can be hard to brush out.

Limp hair

Fine hair can easily become flat hair. If your hair’s falling flat and you desperately want to inject some volume and body, make sure you have a dry texturizing spray in your bag. Flip your hair over and spray liberally, concentrating on the roots. This should add volume and soak up any oil that’s weighing down your hair. If you have a dryer handy you could also give your roots a quick blast of hot air.

Grown out roots

If you haven’t managed to get to the colourist recently and you’re conscious of your mismatched roots, a bit of extra volume should help to render any unwanted ombre less obvious. Use a curling iron to add volume towards the roots and waves through to the ends.

Messy bangs

If you’re growing out your bangs, you’ll find there’s a transitional stage, before they’re long enough to easily tuck behind your ears, when they can look a bit unruly. This is the perfect time to get creative by creating a casual braid that can be pinned back with a couple of bobby pins. It’s a neat way to tidy up you bangs and a cool statement.

Hat hair

Hats can, of course, be your great ally on a bad hair day – there’s no simpler solution to bad hair than simply covering it up – but they can be your enemy too. Sadly, a cute hat can destroy great hair. But fear not, you don’t have to choose between your hair and your hat, just make sure you switch your parting before donning your hat. Yep, it’s that easy, simply push your hair over to the opposite side you normally wear your part on, then switch it back when you remove the hat.

Frizzy hair

The only way to tackle frizzy har is with moisture, once your hair becomes dry it’s pretty much impossible to defrizz. This means it’s important to make sure your hair is thoroughly hydrated. Conditioner is your key ally in the fight against frizz – consider using a conditioning mask once a week and apply product before it your hair dries.
