Rush London are celebrating this week as they were announced winners of the Retail Salon of the Year award (sponsored by TIGI) at this year’s exclusive British Hairdressing Business Awards held at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London.

Presented by Hairdressers Journal International, the British Hairdressing Business Awards are now in their 11th year and were initiated to specifically recognise and celebrate the business success and professionalism of the hairdressing industry. There are thirteen categories within the awards, ranging from the Retail Salon of the Year Award to the Manager of the Year Award, which reward the entrepreneurial expertise of the UK’s leading hairdressers. To enter the awards, salons or individuals have to fulfil the criteria set down and present this in a dossier, which is judged by a team of industry experts from the sponsoring companies of the various categories.

From these impartial judging sessions, six finalists are chosen and the dossiers are then judged by an independent panel of judges including industry experts, business journalists and financial specialists.

Rush competed against six other salons in the Retail Salon of the Year category sponsored by TIGI, at the glittering final of the British Hairdressing Business Awards, which were hosted by media favourite and Dancing on Ice competitor Michael Underwood.

Rush Operations Director George Phouli was absolutely delighted to hear the news of their win and exclaimed; “2009 has been an absolutely incredible year for Rush. As we reach 50 salons across London and the South East, being recognised for our retail business practice is both a wonderful feeling and a huge achievement. Products play an important part of helping clients recreate their salon looks at home and allow them to maintain the condition of their hair between appointments. The award win has created a real buzz amongst our team and our clients, and is a great testament to our retail programme.”

Publisher/Editor-in-Chief of Hairdressers Journal International, Jayne Lewis-Orr commented,”Entries were alive with innovation, enthusiasm and entrepreneurial expertise showing amazing skills across the breadth of business management. Hairdressing is definitely an industry that is holding up well in the recession. The judges had an extremely difficult job as standards were so high; to be chosen as a winner at the British Hairdressing Business Awards is a tremendous testimony to Rush’s business acumen and skills.”
