Summer Hair Care Tips You Wish You’d Always Known

Summer is the time of year you want your hair looking the best it possibly can. You’ve probably got a long list of events coming up including, holidays, garden parties and festivals that require good hair. However, summer time is actually one of the most straining times on your hair and therefore it’s important to give it some love and attention during the hot season.

Regular Trim:

You should always start summer with a good old trim. If you like long hair this doesn’t have to be very much, just a little bit of the ends will do the trick. You’ll be surprised by how a little chop of the ends will make a difference to your whole look. Getting rid of dead ends will volumise hair and allow it to grow even faster.

Reduce Heat:

We all love doing something different with our hair when going out, but this does often entail using heat. Whether its straighteners, curlers or heated rollers it can begin to take its toll! In the summer months, it’s best to reduce the amount of heat applied to the hair. This is the perfect time for you to experiment with different wavy styles!

Loose Up Styles:

Messy buns, top knots, loose plaits and any up do is perfect for the summer season. Not only do hair looks like this keep you cool on a hot day, they are less damaging for the hair. Having your hair tied loosely minimises its exposure to the sun and reduces the chances of damage from pulling and tearing.

Wash Less Often:

If you are someone who washes their hair every day, you may want to try and reduce this to every other day. You could always carry a small bottle of dry shampoo with you to top up your roots. Washing hair excessively can cause the hair to become very dry, especially the ends, which can leave it looking very lifeless and hard to style.

Homemade Conditioners:

Who doesn’t love a homemade concoction? They are cheap, easy and probably already in your kitchen cupboard! Try brushing some coconut oil onto the tips of the hair during the summer months. It’s best to do this when your hair is dirty, soak the ends, leave for an hour and then wash it out with your normal shampoo routine. This will nourish each strand making your hair feel softer and glossier.

Another tip… mix a couple of tablespoons of apple cider vinegar with water, after shampooing your hair, pour the mixture onto the hair, working into your scalp. Wash out thoroughly and then style your hair like normal! Doing this once a week during the summer months will aid in hair growth and keep the hair healthy and glossy looking.

Sea Salt Spray:

We all love that beach babe wave look on holiday, those effortless curls that you get without having to try. In order to achieve this look without having to apply lots of heat, you could try some sea salt spray. This will help hold your style and allows you to easily achieve more volume and gorgeous, tousled waves with no damage!

Lots of Fluids:

It may sound cliche but water really is important – not just for the body but also for the hair as well! Drinking at least two litres of water a day will help the strength of your hair, increasing growth. Drinking water also triggers the energy that is transmitted at the scalp that runs to your hair’s end. When the roots are hydrated, this will eliminate problems like dandruff.
