Summer – The Season of Highlights
Look at any celebrity and there’s one thing most of them have in common – they’re all wearing hair highlights. Whether it’s sun-kissed or cool and contrasting, there’s a myriad of options to brighten up everyday styles.
Chris Williams, Rush Hair international colour director, says while the term highlights may have taken a back seat, the application of applying highlights is as popular as ever. “Balayage, root stretches, smudges, blends – these are all different names for essentially the same thing; using natural colour to frame the face and draw attention to beautiful hair.”
With summer on our doorsteps there’s no better time than now to try something new and fun. The trend for pastel tones isn’t abating any time soon, so why not try a pretty pastel pink, lilac or blue toner? It will only last a few days and will gradually fade, but is great for a special weekend or festival.
So what are the highlighting tones for summer you should be looking out for? Chris gives his predictions.
Summer 2018 is all about the clean, icy blonde. Cool tones are the way to go and mixed with other softer blonde tones give a really modern feel.
Brunettes should also opt for cooler tones – soft, caramel lights off the root with just a subtle violet tinge give a cooler take on the popular Rose Gold trend. Pantone Colour of the Year Ultra Violet is a great addition for brunettes to add a coolness to any length.
Red is out, soft copper is in. Look for soft copper with gold and rose undertones and strawberry tones for lift.
1 Using the right products is like a life insurance for your hair. A professional shampoo and conditioner will ensure colour looks good for longer.
2 Make regular appointments for your colourist to maintain your highlights.
3 Ask your stylist about Smart Bond. This treatment helps strengthen hair during the colouring process and prevents colour fade.
