Millie Mackintosh’s ‘60s Beehive
It’s official: Made In Chelsea stunner Millie Mackintosh is our new hair crush, and we think it may be true love.
Ever since she tweeted this picture of her take on the new season’s up-do trend, we’ve fallen head-over-heels for her ’60s style:
That on-trend set of bangs, those gradated delicate strays and, of course, that vanilla brunette colour – ugh! This is hair perfection in a trendily-filtered photograph.
Since instagramming her way into our hearts, Miss Mackintosh has been revisiting the iconic retro style, mixing it up with this half up-do look:
It’s no secret – apart from everything else the ’60s had to offer the world, it was a damn good decade for hair and beauty – something which seems to have occurred on more than one occasion to the beauties of celebville, who continuously revisit the numerous delights of the decade.
Here are some of our favourite beehive barnets to stop you from channelling Marge Simpson when you want to look like Brigitte Bardot.
When it comes to the beehive revival we only have one person to thank, and that person is, of course, the iconic Amy Winehouse, who became synonymous with her bold retro ‘do.
Miss Winehouse was made for this look, and to this day her quirky style is sorely missed from the red carpets of the world. We love her bold white blonde streaks against the wild raven of her base hair colour. Add a generous helping of winged black liquid liner and a statement floral hair accessory and you’ve got a seriously iconic look on your hands.
For a more relaxed take on the beehive look, i.e. one that you can legitimately take out to the office, make like Gwen Stefani and keep the height sustained throughout your hair for a less extreme gradient.
We doubt Gwen Stefani back combs her eternally-glossy locks, so opt for volumising spray instead of the go-to texturising method for extra height. Shine serum is also a must to keep the look suitably smart for the daytime.
Adele consistently exudes ’60s chic with her trademark blonde/brown hybrid ‘do.
Naturally, this look and a bold, graphic, fluttering eye go hand in hand, so be sure to invest in some star-quality faux lashes, a black liner and some illuminating shadow for the inner corners of each eye to make your eyes almost as big as your hair.
Miss Osbourne’s own spin on the classic beehive is given a contemporary update with its silvery lavender shade. It just goes to show that the iconic style doesn’t need to stay in the past and can look incredibly fashion-forward with the right flourishes.
Would you be brave enough to don the beehive, or do you think it should be relegated to the time that hair forgot? What do you think of Millie Mackintosh’s reinvention of the retro ‘do?
