Bright, pastel or natural colour are big hair trends right now, and with a little care and attention, you can have beautiful colour for longer – all it takes is a little planning and know-how. Follow these tips and colour fade will be a thing of the past.

1 – Condition, condition, condition

The key to gorgeous hair is condition – the more porous the hair, the more it will fade. So make sure you use a conditioner every time you wash your hair and a hair mask at least once a week. The L’Oreal Professionnel Vitamino Color Hair Masque protects colour and enhances shine in under five minutes.

2 – Choose a colour-safe shampoo

Opt for a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner – the sulphate may lather up, but it also strips the hair of colour. There’s a huge range of sulphate-free shampoos to choose from – try Kerastase Reflection Bain Chromatique Sulfate-free Shampoo.

3 – Colour can fade

There are some colours that will fade quicker – for example, vibrant tones and pastels will fade faster than natural tones. To keep them looking bright, use a colour-enhancing conditioner every two weeks to refresh your tones and keep those reds red!

4 – Strengthen the hair from within

A treatment will penetrate the cuticle and work from within. They don’t take long – they can be applied to the hair and work their magic while you paint your nails – but the benefits can be enormous. L’Oreal Professionnel’s Smartbond is a three-step system that is first applied in the salon, with a take-home treatment to use inbetween salon visits.  A must for any colourista!

5 – Use less heat

Hot water and heated appliances can all contribute to colour fade – so ditch the irons and let hair dry au natural. After all, natural texture is big news this summer, so coat hair in a leave-in conditioner and let it air dry for natural waves and curls.

6 – Banish brassy tones

Blondes, greys and lightened tones can become brassy, yellow and dull. A silver shampoo, such as L’Oreal Professionnel’s Serie Expert Silver Shampoo, has an anti-yellow action so blondes can have fun for longer!
