The wolf cut is one of those hairstyle trends that *everyone* seems to love – in fact, at the time of writing, at least 120k Google searches are made every month and vids using the hashtag #wolfcut have had over a billion views on TikTok. And yet, you can find a way of wearing it that feels unique to your personal taste. Particularly as every hair length and hair type unlocks a host of different wolfy looks.

The wolf haircut is not to be entered into lightly though; a combination of the shag and the mullet, it was born in South Korea and got popular in the UK when we were all stuck at home, and a bad DIY haircut was the least of our worries. Now, if you decide to try out a wolf hairstyle in 2022, know that you’ll be working a bold, grungy, cool-girl aesthetic: think Billie Eilish, not Kim K. What is a wolf cut?

A wolf cut is a creative version of a mullet. It’s inspired by the choppy texture of a mullet and follows a similar pattern and shape but has the softness and wearability of a shag cut. You’ll see lots of volume on top, daring shorter layers at the front and a tapered, wispier finish at the bottom. Also look out for the dramatic, heavy fringe or curtain bangs.

Why is it called a wolf cut?

It’s in the name! The wolf cut should look undone, wild and fierce, reminiscent of a wolf’s fur.

Should I get a wolf cut?

The wolf cut – it’s for everyone! If it’s a drastic change for you, make sure to chat it through with your hairdresser first to make sure you’ll love the finished result; they’ll be able to create something a little softer and slightly less statement-making, if you’re nervous.
