Kerasilk FAQs

Does Kerasilk keratin treatment straighten hair completely?

Unlike traditional keratin treatment for straightening that leaves hair completely poker-straight, a Kerasilk treatment is fully customisable. It reduces stubborn frizz and flyaways while allowing you to retain your hair’s natural wave, volume, or curl pattern. Your locks are left noticeably sleeker, softer, and significantly easier to style without losing their natural movement.

What’s the difference between traditional Kerasilk and keratin?

While traditional options require you to wait up to three days before washing out the formula, a Kerasilk keratin hair smoothing treatment blends strengthening keratin with silk proteins and is rinsed out directly in the salon. This means you can enjoy instantly silky, weightless results with zero downtime.

How long does a Kerasilk treatment last?

Keratin smoothing can last between 3-5 months, depending on your natural hair texture, and how well you maintain your hair once you’ve had the service. To keep your hair smooth and soft, use sulphate-free shampoos, and try not to let your hair come into contact with chlorine or saltwater.

When can I wash my hair after Kerasilk?

As Kerasilk is rinsed and styled during your salon appointment, there is no strict waiting period. However, since your hair is freshly cleansed, conditioned, and blow-dried by your stylist, we recommend waiting 2 to 3 days before your next wash to allow your hair to rest and maximise product longevity.

Can you colour your hair after Kerasilk?

We advise waiting to colour your hair until at least 2 weeks post-keratin smoothing. As Kerasilk coats your hair with a protective layer, applying colour to your locks too soon after the service could leave you with uneven, patchy hair. Talk to your stylist if you have any questions about achieving your ideal colour.

Who should get a Keratin smoothing treatment?

The Kerasilk Smoothing Treatment is compatible with most hair textures because it’s customisable. However, the treatment may be particularly ideal with someone who has particularly frizzy, damaged hair that has become unmanageable and difficult to tame.

What are the benefits of Kerasilk smoothing treatments?

  • Easier styling and manageability

The treatment works by coating the hair with keratin, which not only strengthens the hair but also speeds up the drying process. This means less time spent under the heat of the blow-dryer, reducing the risk of heat damage.

  • Less frizz

The treatment not only locks in moisture but also strengthens the hair cuticle. This dual action results in less frizz and a noticeable increase in shine and elasticity. You’ll find your hair feeling softer and more manageable post-treatment.

  • Safe for colour-treated hair

Keratin smoothing treatments are not only safe for coloured hair, but they can also work wonders on it by locking in pigments and adding a protective layer around the hair shaft. If your hair has been dyed or bleached, it can enhance the appearance of your colour.

  • Enhances shine

Keratin smoothing treatments can add a beautiful shine and lustre to the hair, giving it a healthy and vibrant appearance.

  • Long-lasting results

Five months, depending on the specific treatment and aftercare. This means you can enjoy smooth and manageable hair for an extended period without frequent touch-ups.

What is the best aftercare routine for keratin-treated hair?

To preserve your glass-like finish and extend the life of your service:

  • Use Sulphate-Free Products: Always cleanse with professional, sulphate-free shampoos and conditioners to avoid stripping the keratin coating.
  • Deep Condition Weekly: Incorporate a nourishing hair mask to keep strands hydrated.
  • Protect from Salt & Chlorine: Avoid exposing hair to salt water or chlorinated pools without protection.
  • Minimise Excessive Heat: Apply a heat protectant spray before using flat irons or wands.

Can a Kerasilk smoothing treatment help with hair growth?

While keratin smoothing treatments may not directly speed up hair growth, they play a crucial role in maintaining the health and integrity of your hair. These treatments work by strengthening the hair, reducing frizz, and minimising the appearance of split ends. This can give the illusion of faster hair growth, as the hair is less prone to breakage and can retain its length more effectively.

Can you get a Kerasilk treatment with curls?

Yes, curly hair can see some fantastic benefits from keratin treatments, such as achieving reduced frizz and more defined curls. The key is to select a treatment that softens the curl pattern without eliminating it, unless a straighter look is your goal.
