Hairstyles for Valentine’s Day 2020
Is it really that time of year again? It’s alright you can give up the pretence, we know you’re already planning your Valentine’s Day date night outfit.
Whether you’re indulging in a special evening with your long-term partner or plotting a tryst with an exciting new romantic prospect, Valentine’s night takes some beating as an excuse to seriously ramp up your usual beautification regime. This might mean picking up a dazzling new outfit or treating yourself to a beauty-boosting facial, but, as far as we’re concerned, no Valentine’s night transformation is complete without a hairdo that makes you feel a million dollars. Which is where we come in.
We’re sure loads of you prefer to keep things cool and casual on Valentine’s night, but for those of you who love to glam up and go full seductress, preparation is vital. We’ve picked out two hot hairstyles – a classic, ultra-glamorous ‘do that’s guaranteed to wow your date and a more edgy, on-trend cut that should suit a less dressed-up Valentine’s night.
For classic glamour – Hollywood waves
If you want a look that’s seriously glamorous you really need to tap into the timeless glamour of old Hollywood. There are all sorts of interesting, fashionable things you can do with your hair, but polished, red carpet-worthy waves are hard to beat when it comes to wow factor.
Sleek, tumbling waves can be achieved more easily than you might imagine. Simply separate your hair into two-inch sections and use a 1” barrel curling iron to create long curls throughout the length of your hair. This is best achieved by starting a few inches from the root, twisting the iron a turn and a half, then running it down your locks, so the curl slips gently through their entire length. Blast the ringlet with hairspray, then continue the process around your head. Finally, loosen the curls with your fingers or by brushing them out with a paddle brush, before tackling any flyaways with a good serum.
For sexy, on-trend style – Shag fringe
For a more rock ‘n’ roll take on vintage glamour, how about a look that screams 70s cool rather than 40s elegance? The shag fringe is one of 2020’s hottest styles and definitely stands out as this year’s cool girl Valentine’s night look. If your date’s more Mick Jagger than Cary Grant, this could be the look for you.
The contemporary take on the shag tends towards a gentler, more wearable version of the classic retro look that’s adaptable to different hair types and lengths. The core elements of the shag are layers, lots of body and a plenty of fringe. It’s a deliberately textured and tousled look with plenty of attitude, but it also tends to frame the face nicely, making it an appealingly flattering style.
