1. R&B Princess Rihanna
Still one of our favourite Carnival looks showcased by gorgeous Barbadian singer Rhianna, golden messy curls. This gorgeous and stylish look is easy to recreate with a helping hand of sea-salt spray, mouse and a good diffuser. Our expert team at Rush Westbourne Grove will be able to help guide you in buying the best retail products to suit your hair type.
Step 1: Turn your head upside down and pull some mouse through damp roots in order to give extra volume. Flip your hair back and spray your lengths and ends with sea-salt spray. After spraying your lengths and ends, tightly scrunch your hair starting on one side of your head, finishing on the other.
Step 2: Use a good diffuser on medium speed and start to dry sections of your hair. Continue this process until your hair is dry.
Step 3: To finish of your look and keep your style in shape all day, set with a hairspray or curl serum.
Braiding is one of the most popular summer hairstyles and the variety in which you can style your braid is endless. From fishtail, to French braid, Dutch braid or regular three stand braid this look is a popular choice for carnival, festivals or even a trendy every day style. Suitable for all hair types/ lengths and is easy to style, long lasting and above all effortless chic. Stand out from the crowd at this year’s Notting Hill carnival by following our simple step-by-step guide and make your braid a true style hair hero. To create Dutch Braid follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Brush your hair using a fine comb and part your hair into two, starting from the forehead and moving towards the back of your head down to your neck, creating a straight line. Tie one side into a high side ponytail to keep away whilst you complete your first braid.
Step 2: Working form your right side first. Start the braid three fingers down from your forehead. Divide the top of the section into three small sections cross the left section of hair under the middle section, and then cross the right section under the middle section. Continue the same process until your braid runs through the length of your hair, remembering to pick up hair from the sides as you work your way down your hair. Secure with a small hairband tied at the bottom of the braid.
Step 3: Use a hairspray to smooth away any flyways and complete the look.
Step 4: Add a pop of colour to your braids like Kylie Jenner to get in the carnival spirit.
3.Half up, half down with space buns
Buns are a style we absolutely adore. Whether its one or two, messy, tight or loose you can play around with your look and style your buns to suit your individual face shape, hair type or to give the finishing touches to your summer outfit. Being a popular celebrity favourite spotted on the likes of Ariana Grande and Khloe Kardashian, this carnival season it will be all about half up, half down double buns. Here’s how to recreate this gorgeous edgy style.
Step 1: With damp hair, apply heat protector oil to the lengths & ends or your hair and dry your hair using a hairdryer. Once dry, apply a few spritz of beach wave spray and use a ghd styler to curl your hair. Take small sections at a time and wrap around the curling barrow to make a curl. Once you have completed all sections, run your fingers through the curls to loosen.
Step 2: To create the buns, firstly decide how high you want them. Then using a fine comb follow your parting from left to right separating the top section of hair from the bottom. Repeat this method but this time section from the middle of your forehead to the end of teh section you have just created. You should now have three sections. Pull back the top left section as if you was making a ponytail and wrap the hair around to create a bun. Use your fingers to tuck any loose strands under the band. The messier the better for this look. Repeat on the top right section.
Step 3: Use ghd hairspray to keep your waves lasting longer and scrunch the hair left down to give a bit volume and messy look.
Follow one of the easy step-by-step guides to create your 2017 carnival look. You can do almost anything with your hair and even add different colourful garments to get in the Caribbean spirit.
